Statistically, 1 in 8 women is affected by breast cancer. It can feel like there’s nothing we can do to alter this statistic, but in fact, there is one thing we can do, we can combat fear with knowledge and reduce the static with early detection. It’s breast cancer awareness month and we want to recognize this important event by sharing 3 tips we’ve learned about early detection.

Tip 1 – Make Self-Checks a part of your regular routine
Your regular health care provider can show you how to do self-exams at home. This way you can familiarize yourself with how your body typically feels and monitor any small changes over time.

Tip 2 – Know when to go to the doctor
It’s recommended for women over 40 to get breast exams done annually and women in their 20s and 30s should get one done every 2-3 years.

Tip 3 – Support, support, support!
Getting a mammogram can make some women feel nervous or uncomfortable, so don’t be afraid to ask the doctor questions or to ask a friend or family member to go with you for support. Let’s stay informed and stronger together!
