Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future
Permanent makeup has been around a lot longer than you’d think. This industry keeps growing and evolving and we’re honored to be a part of the passion, the pigments, and the artists. We want to take a look back on the brief history of permanent makeup, while also looking forward to important new techniques.
The rise in popularity of permanent makeup started in the early 20th century, but proof of its existence had been detected as far back as 5000 B.C. Permanent makeup techniques helped people suffering from alopecia and today continues to help them along with breast cancer survivors. It was advertised for enhancing rosy cheeks and soon extended to eyeliner and eyebrows. There weren’t specific qualifications for artists that tattooed in the past. They had limited learning resources because tattooing was still considered taboo. Beauty salons listed permanent makeup treatments as “complexion treatments” to avoid telling clients it involved tattooing. The industry had not yet earned the respect it deserved.
Now, cosmetic tattooing takes place in the finest establishments across the world. What was once a best-kept secret is now a major movement. There is an impressive range in what is now possible for permanent makeup techniques and treatments. For instance, Eyeliner and Ombré Brow Master Class. Modern techniques in eyebrow tattooing are able to create individual hair strokes for an impeccable natural look. Lip treatments have advanced to detailed lip blushing. Eyeliner treatments are able to highlight the eye color while also extenuating the lash line to give the look of fuller lashes. Scar camouflage treatments have a larger variety of flesh-colored pigments to better mask scars. Permanent makeup is finally getting the attention and appreciation it deserves. Today people recognize the hard work and dexterity it takes to be a successful permanent makeup artist.
Permanent Cosmetics is an industry like no other – based on statistics provided by the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals, the number of trained technicians has greatly increased in the past three years alone and it continues to grow. There’s also an increase in the demand for information. We’re grateful to be a source of learning and excited to see what happens as we continue to go forward!
